Education is a huge part of children’s lives. The National Curriculum covers a range of subjects and as a parent this can be demanding. There may be gaps in your knowledge, especially science so should you just try by yourself to do the best you can or hire a qualified tutor?
Put Yourself in Their Shoes
As a teenager school can be pretty tough and of course not everyone is a natural scholar. Some children will struggle with their school work in a class room environment but will still strive and have that desire to do their best. You, as a parent, always want the best for your children and to help them out no matter what. Unfortunately when it comes to academics it can be a struggle because an adult (unless a teacher) hasn’t spent that much time in a classroom since they left school or graduated! Subjects can be as baffling to the parent as they are to a child especially when it comes to sciences. It could be worthwhile to hire physic, chemistry and biology tutors to help your child with their studies.
Types Of Learning
Teenagers, children and even adults all learn in different ways, this is one of the common reasons why some children just aren’t successful through classroom teaching. The three main types of learning are:
- Visual – learns through seeing, for example qualified biology tutors will show images, videos etc.
- Auditory – learns through listening; class room, CDs, lectures, etc.
- Kinesthetic – learns through touch; getting ‘hands-on’ experience, experiments, etc.
One on one teaching from qualified biology tutors will allow the teacher to recognise the individual learning process of your child as a tutor will have more time with their student. As a parent you may not know wholly what is on the syllabus for the school or exams so you could find it difficult to teach your child exactly what they need to know. For example a specialist biology tutor will have knowledge of the following specialist subjects:
- Anatomy
- Botany
- Genetics
- Human
- Immunology
- Microbiology
- Physiology
- Zoology
What To Look For In A Tutor
Understandably it can be difficult to trust an individual working alone with your child so when picking a tutor make sure you choose a private tutor with a CRB check from a reputable firm. A good tutor will usually have a degree at a 2.1 or above in their field of expertise and/or relevant tutoring or teaching experience. Tutors will be able to assess exactly what areas of the subject that a child is struggling with and target that area and this will ensure that your child has a well-rounded knowledge of the entire subject.
It is not only children who are struggling that can benefit from tutoring, one on one tutoring could be the difference between an A and a B at GSCE or A level. Hiring qualified biology tutors will save you time and give you the confidence that your child is getting the best education possible.
