When summer comes around there’s no better time to be out in the sun. The nights, however, can be harder to withstand. One of the hardest times to sleep is in the heat of summer, and it can be difficult to cool ourselves down. Experiment with different ways of keeping cool, and follow these tips to ensure a cool, restful sleep this summer.
Use Cotton Sheets
When the hot whether comes around, it’s best to go back to the basic sheets. Your special satin, silk or polyester sheets will make it harder for you to sleep. Cotton, however, breathes better than other materials. By ensuring you use cotton sheets, you will allow your bed more air, and a cooler night for yourself.
Experiment With Fans
We’ve all had those nights with three fans blasting us in the face, but it just isn’t working. Experiment with where you place your fans, as this can make a lot of difference. Rather than pointing them at the bed, try facing them towards the windows. This will blow the hot air out of the room, rather than at you. Depending on the size and shape of your room, certain techniques will work more effectively. Play around with your fans and see what works best for you.
Eat Cooler Meals
Summer isn’t the time to be slaving over the stove. Cooking a hot meal drastically raises body heat, both while cooking and after consumption. By cooking cooler meals, you will feel cooler in the kitchen. This will also stop your body heat from rising after you have eaten your meal.
Drink Lots of Water
A lot of the time, tossing and turning and not getting any sleep is the result of dehydration. It’s crucial to stay hydrated and drinks as much water as possible during summer. So before you go to bed, have a large class of water. This will cool you down and allow your body heat to lower.
Use the Freezer
For those extra hot nights, consider placing your sheets in the freezer about half an hour before you go to bed. Wrap them up in a plastic bag and cool them down, then put them back on just before you go to sleep. They will stay cool for a while. This is a much more effective technique than the tried and tested cool face washer. Cooler sheets ensure you will fall asleep with ease.
Freeze Your Hot Water Bottle
Like we use them in winter, the hot water bottle can be just as effective during summer. Rather than filling it with hot water, fill it with cold water and stick it in the freezer. During the hot nights you will have your very own ice pack.
There are a number of ways of going about cooling down this summer. If you’re having trouble sleeping, try these tips and you’re sure to cool down in no time. For more information about achieving a restful sleep, visit Latex Mattress Sydney.
