Finding a job is more than something to pay the bills in an ideal world, you want to find something that will make you happy as well as provide a sense of fulfillment. Whether you are looking for a teaching position once you complete your master’s in education with certification or you are already a working teacher that is looking for the right school, your dream job is within your reach.
When is the Best Time to Look?
You want to be sure that you are looking for a teaching position when you will have your pick of places rather than find only one open spot at a school you are not excited about. The spring months leading up to the end of the year are the best time to start searching because the principals of schools are typically made aware of who is and is not returning come fall. Prime teacher job hunting begins in April and could run through July or August depending on when school starts in your area.
You Have to Take the Lead
While it is possible for you to secure a teaching job through the methods outlined by each school district, taking some initiative will be necessary to get your dream position. First of be confident and present yourself in a way that shows you are prepared for anything that lies ahead. Before you even approach a school, write down all of the classes and electives you have taught as well as they types of activities you have used and any extracurricular activities you have lead. Now split the list up into what you did and did not enjoy doing. This process will be as much about self-realization as it will be about getting others interested in your services.
Once you know what your ideal situation would be, you can research school districts in the area that would cater to your needs and wants. Then do further research on these schools, find out what their turnover rate is, what awards they have one, their performance on standardized testing, and demographics. Once you are sure you have found the place for you, submit your application to the principal as well as the school district.
Once you complete your masters in education with certification or when you feel you need a change of pace in your professional life, be proactive, do the research, and you can make your dream job a reality.
