If your business has had a good year, it’s important to celebrate. With Christmas and the new year fast approching, there’s no better time to start making bookings and plans than now.
Organising a party or get-together for your employees has a whole host of benefits to all concerned, not least of which is the fact that everyone gets the chance to have a great time. Equally, when it comes to wining and dining existing or prospective clients, it’s also worth putting a significant amount of time, effort and money into your functions.
But such a task can be quite a headache to many bosses, and many of them decide to hand the job over to their secretary. Organising a function, though, doesn’t have to be stressful – and you might even enjoy it.
Meeting colleagues outside work can take people out of their comfort zones, so it’s important to provide a little ‘social lubricant’ in the form of alcohol. Of course, you don’t want to encourage drinking too much, since it might lead to embarrassing situations and a large bar bill. But a few drinks can help your team unwind and really celebrate a successful year. It can also help relax those all-important clients.
Food is also very important in adding to the joy of any function. Make sure you choose a restaurant or venue that has a good reputation for their food. Try and ensure there is some choice, and try to find out if there are any vegetarians or vegans in the group. Also try and identify any allergies people have to certain foods.
If you have the time and the money, it’s good to give your team something to do apart from drinking, eating and chatting. There are many corporate function venues that provide access to golf courses, pools and spas. Party venues where such activities can be enjoyed can give people something to talk about other than work.
Think about how you will get people to the venue. Will you organise transport? Or will you choose a venue that is close to where most people love, so that getting there is easy? Remember that if people are drinking, safe transport should be a top priority. Alternatively, you may think about choosing a venue with accommodation, though this could be expensive.
Once you’ve decided which of the many available party venues you want to hire, you might think about organising some kind of award ceremony. You can have a few serious awards for employees that have done particularly well over the year, but you might want to include a few silly ones too, making light of amusing situations that have occurred in the workplace.
Ultimately, it’s important to encourage a fun atmosphere to help your team celebrate a successful year, or to relax a prospective client enough for them to sign on the dotted line!
