Asphalt roofs are also energy efficient and are eligible for tax credits depending on whether or not the shingle is energy star rated. If the asphalt shingle roofing material is Energy Star rated, than it is energy efficient and eligible for tax credits which makes the roof itself less expensive through tax credits and will lower the household utility bills.
Shingle roofs are also quiet. Weather and the sounds of rain do not permeate through a shingle roof. Metal roofs, on the other hand, allow the sounds of rain and hail to penetrate the home and cause annoying noise and clanging that can be distracting to the homeowners.
For a new roof installation, choose a shingle roof made from asphalt. They are inexpensive, easy to repair and have a long life. They are also quiet and resistant to expensive damage such as falling branches and hail, and they can be purchased with Energy Star ratings.
