There are some fantastically beautiful gardens all over the world, and one of the most common features for nearly every large garden is a water feature. Chinese and Japanese gardens are famous for their use and arrangement of ponds, streams, and fountains to mimic nature and create stunningly serene and beautiful environments, but other famous gardens around the world also contain gorgeous water features as well.
The Garden of Cosmic Speculation in Scotland is a whimsical and uniquely beautiful arrangement of natural sculptures and sculptured nature. The garden is only opened to the public for a single day each year, and rather than focus on the plants and topiary this one of a kind space gives its visitors food for thought. Of course no garden, wildly individual or not, would be complete without a water feature. The Garden of Cosmic Speculation has several ponds and fountains included within the grounds.
Another unique and popular garden is the Keukenhof Garden in the Netherlands. The Keukenhof contains some of the world’s most spectacular floral displays. The primary focus is on tulips, and there are some seven million of these gorgeous flowers within the gardens. There are traditional varieties as well as several unique hybrids. There are several beautiful ponds and a single traditional but no less lovely fountain on the grounds.
One location with a world famous garden is the palace built by Louis the XIV at Versailles, France. The construction of the palace and surrounding grounds was a monumental undertaking and at times required entire regiments of workers to complete. The topiaries and floral displays are beyond beautiful, and the fountains along the palace canals are fantastic examples of baroque sculpture.
The Botanical Garden of Curitiba is an example of exotic beauty and style in southern Brazil. Constructed in the French style, this garden has numerous water features from elaborate and fantastical fountains to waterfalls and lakes. The garden attracts botanists from all over the world to study its many unique species, some of which cannot be found in any other portion of the world.
Another wonderful garden much further north in the Americas is the Butchart Garden on Vancouver Island in Canada. One of the garden’s most prominent features is a lush waterfall and the stunning pond below. These two lovely water features are surrounded by gorgeous topiary plants, bushes, and flowers. The entire scene is almost fantastical when seen as a whole from a short distance.
On the other side of the world the Yuyuan Garden of China is equally as stunning, perhaps even more so considering it has endured for more than four hundred years. The original gardens have opened and closed several times, but they always seem to burst forth once more like a phoenix from its ashes. As with all traditional Chinese gardens, the ponds and fountains are central features of the Yuyuan Garden. The goldfish pond and pavilion are especially beautiful and serene.
No matter what part of the world you may find yourself in, the most beautiful gardens almost always contain some type of water feature. The lakes, ponds, fountains, and waterfalls found in the stunningly lovely locations are an essential element to any garden. They constitute the ultimate garden centerpieces.
