You don’t have to live in a large house to enjoy the benefits of a large rug. Many smaller homes, apartments and even cottages make use of large rugs in their home design.
Polished floor boards with a large rug can look great, even in a small room and is a great alternative to a fitted carpet, allowing both the look of the bare wood and a soft touch to the feet.
Large rugs are also generally safer than smaller rugs as they tend not to move around the floor as much, this depends of course upon where the rug is placed. All rugs placed on a polished or laminated floor should have a form of non slip protection underneath.
Rugs are available in varied sizes and are made out of a number of different materials. Pure wool rugs tend to be the most expensive, they are soft to touch and are the easiest to keep clean, and vacuuming alone can lift most dirt from a pure wool rug. Other rugs available include shaggy rugs which are perfect in the bedroom.
Oriental and designer rugs are also available are suitable for washing in a domestic machine.
Choosing a large rug of your choice for your room is important if you want to make a bold statement. The colour, style and fabric can determine what look you are trying to achieve. Large rugs are available in solid colours or a pattern of your choice. They are available in a variety of shapes including round, square and rectangle. Whatever your desire, they are available.
Large rugs are suitable in a number of different rooms
In a lounge, choosing a beautiful contrasting colour to the carpet, curtains and cushions allows the rug to blend in with the style of the room. If choosing a bolder colour, this allows the rug to become a centrepiece.
In a kitchen, depending on the size of the room, a rug can be used to take the cold feeling off the floor, especially in winter. In the kitchen they need to be easy-clean rugs as the area tends to be used more often for cooking and preparation of drinks – more spillages tend to happen in the kitchen.
A rug in the bedroom can be really cosy and again choosing a contrasting colour to the main carpet whilst also matching the curtains and cushions makes the room look finished.
