People who work in an office setting spend a majority of their time sitting in office chairs, yet people sometimes forget to give them as much thought as they deserve. A bad office chair to a chiropractor is like candy to a dentist, so why not save money on those chiropractor bills and invest in a supportive chair instead?
In the case of office chairs the old saying “you get what you pay for” does apply, and most of the top ergonomic chairs do cost quite a bit more than you might be expecting, but you are spending on something that is genuinely worth investing in – your health.
Here are some of the most respected brands of office chairs, and some slightly cheaper versions.
Steelcase Store
A name I continually stumbled upon when researching office chairs, it seems Steelcase Store is one of the best in its field. Their chairs do vary greatly in price, but most of their highly recommended chairs lie in the $700-$800 range.

Herman Miller
Another well known name in office furniture and their Aeron chair looks like it would be a dream to sit in all day. However the Aeron does cost over $800, again it seems the better quality chair you’re looking for, the more you might need to invest.
Humanscale
According to their website, Humanscale claim their Freedom chair is the “gold standard” of office chairs and has been voted so by millions of people. Sounds good to me! Half the price of most Steelcase Store chairs, it goes for around $400.
Viking
An online store that won’t necessarily burn a hole in your pocket, Viking has some great chairs for those who choose not to spend a pretty penny on their office chair
Swiss Ball Chair
We’ve all heard about using Swiss Balls in the office, but now you can get them in a chair frame with a back support! No more tumbling around the room or accidentally falling off.
Ikea
Now they may not be as high-tech or advanced as some of the other stores on this list, I will always have a soft spot in my heart for Ikea. So next time you’re heading out for some Swedish meatballs or new curtains, check out the office chair section as well and test out a couple chairs, I’m sure they’ll let you sit for as long as you need.
Spending as much time as we do at work our chairs and office design have a bigger effect on us than we realize, the right setting really can make the job.
